Most Frameo frames never need a card at all, because 16GB or 32GB of built-in memory holds years of photos sent from the app. A card earns its place in three situations: loading a box of old pictures, playing videos longer than 15 seconds and keeping a backup of the whole album. Makers are unusually direct about it. MaxAngel asks for cards of up to 32GB formatted FAT32 and warns that 64GB or 128GB cards may not work properly. Frameo frames read cards in the FAT32 format, and several makers print that in bold. A card that shows up blank or unreadable on the frame is usually formatted exFAT or NTFS rather than faulty.
Cards of 32GB and under leave the factory as FAT32, so a new 32GB card normally works straight away. Cards of 64GB and over ship as exFAT, which is why a larger card can sit in the slot and show nothing. Reformatting erases the card, so copy anything on it to a computer first.

Keep file names plain and the folders shallow. On the frame, the import screen lists what the card holds and lets the owner choose which pictures to bring in, and a tidy card makes that list much easier to read for someone who is not fond of menus.
